Post 6 b. - Concept Sketches

 Post 6 b. - Papercraft Concept Sketches

Developing a proper concept sketch is one of the crucial aspects of creating something new. This is especially important in a craft, where uncertainty can not be hidden behind the two-dimensional curtains of a drawing or a painting.

However, in order to create a figure visible from all angles, I first need a proper baseline. After all, If you want to write a book, you need to know what you're writing about.

I began by generating quick ideas and turning them into doodles in my sketchbook. Since the topic is 'significant objects from your life', I decided to turn to my hobbies and my past possessions.

Horse Statue - My beloved horse statue I got on my 5th birthday that closely resembled the horse we owned in Poland.
Laptop - Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop. My PC is fantastic but the best part about a laptop is,.. you can play games in bed.
Record Player - My grandma's busted record player in our house back in Poland. The significance of this one is that I can't look at a record player without thinking of the way it sounded.
Camera - A small hobby I developed over the years. It's the closest thing to capturing the way I see the world.
Headphones - Music has always been an escape from reality into the realms of my imagination. These are definitely an important part of my life.
Cat Plush - I love cats. This pillow-like thing used to be my favourite cuddle buddy. I still wonder what happened to it.
Andre's Ring - A ring created by my s/o in jewellery class that he gave me. Way too big, but a very cool design.
2001 Mazda Protege - My family's first car (with me on earth at least.)

Motorcycle Helmet - Shoei GT Air 2, I just got this guy. It has Bluetooth !! So excited for the season so that I can use it. A helmet is the most important piece of equipment when riding.
Drumset - My first and favorite instrument. Back home I was my neighbor's worst nightmare. Thankfully here I have nice soundproofing.
Guitar - Close second favorite, but I'm not the best at it.
Piano - Old friend from back home. My momma really wanted me to play it.
Red Iron Blade (Metin2) - The ultimate goal of every 8-year-old playing a Warrior class character on Metin2. So difficult to obtain, so important in order to get past level 30. Makes getting xp so much easier.
Full Moon Sword (Metin2) - Basically the RIB, but not a long sword. Little more valuable than the RIB, since the RIB is exclusive to the Warrior class only, while this one can be used by 3/4 classes.

2007 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R - The beginning of my obsession, and the first Motorcycle I've ever been on. It belonged to my uncle.
Pencil - An artist's journey has to start somewhere. Mine started with this.
Palm Tree Keychain - My favorite little knick-knack. I don't know where I got it, but it's been with me for years. Still on my keys !!
Game Boy - A Game Boy that I bothered my cousin all the time to let me borrow. I had a lot of fun with this little thing.
Game Boy Advance - After years of bothering my cousin, I got this guy for Christmas from my uncle. My mom has never been happy with me spending time at home since.
PS5 Controller - I love the feel of this controller, so much so that I use it not only on my PS5, but also my PC.
2007 Audi A4 -  Second car we have ever owned during my time on earth, and the start of my love for Audi.
Frog Figure - It is cute and I like frogs. It has been in my room since we moved here, but like many objects in my possession, I am still unsure where it came from.

After sketching out my concepts, I went on to develop three that I found most interesting.
Although the above may not carry the most significance out of the 22 ideas, I wanted to take into consideration not just their importance, but also the realistic possibility of their execution with my limited expertise. Moreover, I did not want to create anything basic, but rather something unconventional yet meaningful to me.
One of my choices was a Game Boy, which I quickly ruled out as something I've seen done before. I did not want my creativity to be influenced by a former design or my memory of such.
My two other options were the Full Moon Sword and the Red Iron Blade.
After a bit of consideration, I ruled out the Full Moon Sword for two reasons. The first being that I have a personal bias towards the Red Iron Blade, and the second because it was too simple for my liking. Although I understood that I need to stay within the boundaries of possibility, I also want to challenge myself through the creation of my object.

I based my sketches on the reference above, which is an in-game character holding the blade. In the future process, I am hoping to use my own character as a reference for the sake of 3D accuracy. With the picture above, however, I was able to put the pieces together as best as I could and realize a final design that I will try to achieve for my project.

Overall, I am excited to begin this journey and looking forward to more learning opportunities this process will likely bring.
