Post 3 - Remix Project Final
Out of my 10 sketches, I ended up going with the World Cup concept, for the sake of memory and this beautiful event.
I decided to attempt creating something that would almost look like a 'screenshot' from an advertisement in the TV. (as if the balls were set in motion and orbiting around the Trophy)
Knowing the result of this event, I made a few adjustments to my original idea.
At first, (although it pained me to do so) I only added a mini figure of Leonel Messi standing at the top of the trophy, since he largely viewed as the player who led the Argentinian team to victory in 2023. I then decided to add a pair of hands that I found, placing them as if they were grabbing the cup.
To produce my final result, I rendered both the trophy and the figure Metal/Gold. The Floating balls are made in Plastic and the Blue orbs and green Torus' are colored using Emission. Lastly, the hands were done in Plaster to create a 'skin-line' texture.
In the end, I decided that I was very happy with the result.
Remix culture is quite a wonderful concept in itself, for it allows already existing objects to be used in the creation of new ideas, in a collaboration with other artists.
I believe my piece does exactly that.
Because of Remix Culture, I was able to take various ideas from a site, and combine them into something completely different.
While on their own, these objects may not look like much more than what they are, using them together generates a completely different subject that suddenly develops a meaning.
Through the use of a random soccer ball, that I found on Thingiverse, I was able to add a sense of motion and space to the 3D sculpture of a World Cup Trophy. The set of hands creates a feeling of desire for the reward from a chase, to which numerous players give their lives. The figure of the most valuable player standing on top of the trophy generates an illusion of a man standing on top of the world, thus highlighting the importance this sporting event has to its fanbase and shining light on the perception that the audience has of the winner of such a magnificent prize.
Because this piece is a mashup of already existing ideas, it was only possible thanks to the creators of these 'things', which is why instead of calling it 'my creation' I like to call it a collaboration.
It is also proof that the such collaboration can give birth to an infinite number of new ideas thanks to the brilliance of not one, but many great minds.
